STATEMEND BY THE MINISTER.

The Minister of Marketing (the Hon. W. Nash) announced to-day that the levies in respect to dairy produce manufactured from cream or milk, delivered to dairy factories on and after August 1, Will apply to all butter: and cheese, whether exported or retained for local consumption. - The new levies will be at the rate of one-fiftieth of a penny per pound on butter and one—hundredth of a. penny per pound on-cheese, and for convenienee sake will be assessed at 1.12d1 per box of butter and 1.63 d per’crate of cheese, on the basis of a. box oil butter being 561 b and a crate of cheese 1631 b. On and after: August 1 the consent of the Minister will be required for the export of _butter and .cheese intended ‘for shipment otherwise than by the Marketing Department. This require:ment will apply to butter and cheese intended for export to parts other than United Kingdom ports, and will extend to shipment to Rail‘otonga, and Nine, and for use as ship’s stores on overseas l-vessels.»~ -
The present dairy! levies will be payable as {heretofore by the shipper to the Customs Department, unless advice from the Marketing Department says that the produce has been manufactured from cream or milk deliw'ered to a. dairy factory after J uljy 31, 1936, and is not subject to these levies. The levies in respect to butter and cheese manufactured from cream or milk delivered to factories after July 31 will be collected by the marketing department from the déiry companies and not from shippers.
