The Australian golfers played American opponents on fairly even terms in the morning round of international matches at the Lakewood Club, course at Los Angeles to-day; but in the afternoon round th© Australians faltered and the Americans won easily. Scores: —Runyan and Parks beat Richardson and Coheir, 3 up and 1; Cooper and Smith beat Bolger and Kelly, 5 up and 4 ; Picard and Dutra beat Ted Naismith and George Naismith, 4 up and 3.

THE NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL. WELLINGTON, Feb. 5. The New Zealand Golf Council lias decided to endeavour to arrange with a professional to report on the courses offering for the championship meeting at such time as they are in a suitable condition to be inspected. The courses offering are Manawatu, Hamilton, New Plymouth and Napier’ Manawatu has offered to withdraw on certain conditions. The Council discussed inter-area matches and decided to write to one of the principal clubs in each of the areas decided upon at the annual general meeting and ask them whether they consider Inhere would be a good prospect of organising these matches and whether the club would be willing to sponsor the event for the first year, and also to submit names as nominations for the selection committee for their respective areas. The Research Committee scheme by which the Association will provide an amount not exceeding £4BO per annum was approved. This enables the committee to retain the services of M. W.
