IMPORTS TO NEW ZEALAND.
BIGGEST OVERSEAS PURCHASER. NEED FOR RECIPROCAL TRADE. (United Press Association—Copyright.) (Received This Day, 12.20 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 14. That New Zealand in 1935 became the biggest overseas purchaser of British motor cars is revealed by the Board of Trade returns. The Dominion imported 8225 cars, valued at £952,620, an increase of £344,000, compared with 1934, South Africa, Britain's next best car customer, bought £809,241 worth. Sir Herbert Austin said that in view of the large increase, British manufacturers will be compelled to vote for, and do all in their power to foster, trade reciprocity with New Zealand. Mr E. W. Rootes (deputy-chairman of the Humber-fMllman-Commer group) says that the United Kingdom motor industry will not be unmindful that New Zealand's capacity to buy British cars depends on Britain's support of her great dairy industry.
