LATE COMMERCIAL.
THE LONDON WOOL SALES MERINOS AND CROSSBREDS IT. (United Press Association—Copyright.) (Received This Day, 9.40 a.m.) LONDON, January 14. The wool sales opened with firm Home, French and German competition. Merinos were five per cent up, crossbreds showed an advance of ten per cent. A total of 9525 bales was offered, including 3375 New Zealand, and 8451 Australian and New Zealand were sold. There was a good attendance. The offering was a fairly good selection. Under the competition from the Ho#ie trade and the Continent a good clearance was effected, apart from moderate withdrawals among greasy merinos owing to firm limits. New Zealand 1 greasy crossbred sold up to 13-id, with, an average of 10£d. Compared with the closing prices at the last series, merino scoured and all greasies were 5 per cent., crossbreds, scoured, greasy, medium and coarse, 10 per cent, dearer.
The National Mortgage and Agency Coy. of New Zealand Ltd. have received the following cablegram from their London Office regarding the wool sales: "The auctions opened here to-day with a large attendance of Home and Continental buyers. All sections of the trade are buying freely under keen competition, including the Continent. Compared with closing rates of last sales we quote: — Greasy merino, best, gd dearer; average id dearer. Halfbreds, 50-56 Id dearer. Crossbreds, 48-50 3d dearer; 46-48 Jd dearer; 44-46 £d dearer; 4044 -Jd dearer ; 36-40 id dearer. Scoured, X brands, good demand, Id to L}d dearer.
As at present arranged the sales will close on January 28.''
