BRITAIN AND EGYPT.
THE DEMAND FOR A TREATY. FAVOURABLE REPLY GIVEN. . (United Press Association—Copyright.) CAIRO, January 1. The vernacular press states that the British Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs (Mr A. A. Eden) replied sympathetically to tho United Front’s Note asking for an Anglo-Egyptian treaty on the lines of the 1930 agreement, under which Egypt would become an independent nation, qualified to join the League of Nations. The British High Commissioner (Sir Miles Lampson), is reported to have conveyed Mr Eden’s reply to Nahas Pasha last night. The latter requested time to study the question. The United Front met to consider Mr Eden’s message, and adjourned. The prospect of delay indicated by Mr Eden is naturally unpalatable to Egyptian minds, blit public opinion is likely to take its cue from the United Front.
