CHEAP FARES.
PASSAGES BY THE QUEEN MARY. MEETING FOREIGN COMPETITION v (United Press Association—Copyright.) LONDON, January 2. After it had been announced that the minimum first-class fares for the Queen Mary had been fixed lower than for the Normandie, the Bremer, and the Europa, the Cuna rd-White Star line gave notice of its withdrawal from the North Atlantic passenger conference, which fixes fares. The interests opposing the redaction argued that a ship of such a size and speed should not be placed on a lower fare than “cabin” class rating. It is understood that the committee proposed that fares for the Queen Mary should be half-way between those for the Normandie and the United States liner Manhattan, but the suggestion was not acceptable to the CunardWliito Star Line, and led to the notice of withdrawal.
