HOUSE ENTERED
AN INTRUDER INTERRUPTED. 3 NCI DENT IN HAVELOCK STREET NOTHING KNOWN MISSING. An audacious attempt at burglary was made at a residence in Havelock Street West last night. The house, was entered at about 10 o’clock while the occupier was shaving and his wife was in town. Various articles and the contents of drawers in a bed-room were disturbed but nothing is known to be missing. The intruder was evidently interrupted, perhaps by a child who was in or about the house, and left hurriedly. The occupier, who was shaving in the wash-house, which is detached from the house heard two bumps but thought they were made by his child, which was playing near. The occupier’s wife had meanwhile been told by a friend in town that a stranger had been seen entering the house. She did not attach much importance to this, and her husband on her return said he had seen lio one. When the woman went to her bed-room however, she found things in a state of confusion, and summoned the police. The intruder is believed to have entered through the front door, which was unlatched. This is at least the eighth burglary or attempted burglary in the west part of the Borough during the last few weeks.
