ILLEGAL PROGRAMME

FINE IMPOSED AT DUNEDIN. EVENTS AT SPRING RACES. (Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, This Day. The publisher and the printer of a racing publication known as Southern Spoiling Guide were fined £3 and 10s respectively in the Police Court for issuing “A document purporting to bo a programme of events of the Dunedin Jockey Club’s spring meeting,” without the club’s authority.

The Magistrate held that the Guide was simply a programme printed and published without authority, and was, according to the Police Offences Act, an illegal publication. The programmes were soli in the streets for threepence. Apart from tips and advertisements, the contents were devoted to the club’s acceptances. Security for appeal was fixed.
