DEATH OF OLD MAORI.

('Per Press Association.) WAIROA, November 11

As the result of a canoe capsizing about 5.30 p.m. on Saturday. Kingi Karauira, aged 82, was thrown into the Wairoa, River and drowned. The accident was seen by a boy aged six years, who was unable to assist in any way apart from giving the alarm. Then it was too late to help the man. Karauira was one of the best-known and most popular Maoris in the district.
