BOXING.

STIRLING REGAINS TITLE.

CHRISTCH.URCH, September SO. In an exciting and even contest tonight, Don. Stirling regained from N. Mudgway the professional welterweight title of New Zealand, winning on points a bout of 15 rounds. Mudgway led on points up to the ninth round, when Stirling landed heavy blows to the head and nearly won by a knock-out. Mudgway hung on andrecovered sufficiently to take some share of the fighting in the last two rounds. Mudgway was the clever boxer, but had no effective blow against a rugged and fit opponent. REEVES BEATS BRANDER. INVERCARGILL, September 30. H. Reeves (Masterton) 11.9, beat Les Brander (N.S.W.) 11.12, on points in a 15-round professional boxing contest this evening. Brander out-boxed Reeves for four or five rounds; but thereafter spoilt the fight with incessant holding of his opponent, whose ruggedness and harder hitting prevailed. FISHER BEATS FORD.

MASTERTON, September 30. A professional middleweight boxing contest between Kid Fisher (England) and Jack Ford (Masterton), at Carterton to-night resulted in the former scoring a points decision. Ford was sluggish over the early rounds, when Fisher piled up a substantial points margin. Ford came to light in the closing stages in a great rally, but missed the verdict.
