THE BRITISH WOMEN’S TEAM.

PRACTICE AT MIRAMAR

WELLINGTON, September 30. The British women’s golf team arrived from Sydney to-day by the Makura. They left for the south in the evening to open their tour at Dunedin on Wednesday. Mrs Hodson, manager of the team, said that during the six 'weeks spent in Australia the players had a marvellous time. They had visited all the main towns and had been greatly impressed with what they saw and with the manner in which they were received. Unfortunately they saw very little of Australia’s country life—they visited only one station during the whole tour.

“The golf courses over there are excellent, but the turf is not the same as at Home,” Mrs Hodson said. “We found it rather difficult to get used to

the course and the climatic conditions. One or two of the players were not particularly fit when they reached Melbourne.”

The team practised this afternoon at the Miramar links. Mrs J. B. Walker and Miss P. Barton played a four-ball with Bryan Silk and Arthur Duncan. In spite of a strong northerly wind Mrs Walker did the out journey in bogey 38, equalling Silk’s figures. Miss Barton did 40. The women were playing from the open tees. Only 16 holes were played. The other members of the team also practised, and all got an amazing distance from the tees, Mrs Walker •being particularly impressive all round. The Governor-General, Viscount Galway, extended a welcome to the team before they drove off from the first tee.
