HOCKEY.
ASHBURTON SUB-ASSOCIATION. The final meeting of delegates of the Mid-Canterbury Men’s Hockey Subassociation was held last evening, the president (Mr E. M. Gabites) presiding over a large attendance. The president reported that Mr G. Bowman had presented a cup for competition next season. The secretary was requested! to write to Mr Bowman expressing the association’s appreciation of the handsome gift, which is to be known as the Bowman Cup and will be allocated to the senior grade. The president and secretary were authorised to purchase medals for the winners of the five-a-side tournament last Saturday. •
It was decided 1 to recommend to the incoming committee that next year’s five-a-side toux-nament should be held early in September, and, if possible, to combine with the Ladies’ Association’s six-a-side, and make a hockey field day, open to all. It was further suggested that Christchurch teams entering should be classified senior A, and local senior clubs as senior B.
It was decided to send 1 a letter of thanks to the Referees’ Association for their assistance during the season. A vote of thanks was accorded the officers, particularly the president, the secretary (Mr S. M. Cassidy) and the treasurer (Mr L. Armstrong), for the very efficient manner in which the affairs of the association had been conducted during the season. were empowered to conduct any business arising prior to the annual meeting.
HALL-WALKER TEAM The following will represent the Ashburton Men’s Hockey Club in a match against Cambridge (Timaru) for the Hall-Walker Shield next Saturday: H. Harper, _ B. Coker, W. Ford, C. Vincent, L. Snell, W. Willis, H. Pearce (captain), F. Taylor, R. . Moylan, C. Young and C. Cox. .
