THE ASHBURTON DISTRICT. AN INCREASE IN DEATHS. An increase in deaths from 11 in September of last year to 17 in September of this year, was recorded in the vital statistics for the Ashburton district for last month. Births decreased bv two and marriages were the same in each period. The figures for the quarter that births were considerably Delow those registered for the corresponding period last year, while deaths were 38 compared with 4G, and marriages were 22, compared with 24.
