Connelly; H. Freer v. R. A. Oakley; K. E. Esson y. S. Bryant; T. A. Richards v. G. McAnulty; R. 11. Knight v. H. C. Nelson; H. A. Moray-Smith v. H. A. Harrison; C. O. Holmes v. E. Croy; P. J. Hanrahan v. scorer. The Rose Trophy was won by C. C. Holmes, 1 down. The ladies will play a Canadian foursome for Mrs J. Bathgate’s trophy. The draw will lie arranged at the golf house.

Miss E. Richards won the August medal, and Miss Ross the September medal.

THE NEW RULE PREFERRED. LONDON, September 24. At the annual meeting of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club, Sir Ern'ley Blackwell’s proposal to revert to the old principle of “lost ball, lost hole,” in match play was overwhelmingly defeated.

Overseas’ representatives declared that the new rule was working well in their respective countries. The contention that penalty of the loss of a hole for a. lost ball was inequitable was practically unanimous.
