WRESTLING.

McCREADY BEATS ANDRESEN. WANGANUI, .September 25. _ In one of the fastest and most scientific wrestling bouts staged'here, Earl MeCready, 16.11, gained the decision over Ole Andresen, 15.8, by one fall. His octopus death-lock secured the fall in the fifth round. MeCready showed himself a. wonderfully powerful wrestler, and it was only his amazing physical endurance which enabled him to take the-only fall. At least five times the Canadian was almost on the verge of collapse when being held in a leg full Nelson, and the bell saved him on three occasions.

SINGH BEATS ELLIOTT. CHRISTCHURCH, September 25. Jaget Singh beat King EUiott in a professional wrestling contest, seeming the only fall of the bout in the seventli round with a deatlilock. Elliott could not continue. WOMEN COMPETITORS. SERIOUS SPORT IN UNITED STATES. Wrestling is not entirely a man’s game. New Zealand women have taken a full interest in the sport, and have added their quota to the excitedly cheering throng round the ring-side when men have grappled with each other in deadly earnest, or in lighter mood, just as the occasion demanded. But in America there are the real lionest-to-goodness women wrestlers, says a Wellington critic. Miss Ruby Allan, 1451 b, welterweight champion woman wrestler, will defend her title against the challenger,

Miss Kay O’Connor, of Memphis, Milwaukee, stated an announcer in Miller’s Hall, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The. referee stepped back and the two girls advanced to meet each other in the centre of the ring. After a few seconds of feinting they got into a referee’s hold, and the bout for the welterweight championship was on. Miss Allan, who has met and defeated all-comers in the 1451 b class, is a brunette, sft. 4in. tall. She depends on skill and speed as much as strength to defeat her opponents. The blonde challenger, Miss O’Connor, is one of the new type of wrestlers who depend on roughhouse tactics to wear down her opponent. The bout lasted 18 minutes, with neither girl having the advantage. Kay suddenly rushed at Ruby and butted her- straight through the ropes. Both girls landed in the laps of the ringside spectators. The referee promptly disqualified Kay and awarded the bout to 11-uhy. Miss Allan is the only woman wrestler to be given official recognition in the record books as the holder of a title in the wrestling game. She is now 33 years of age and has been interested in professional sports in the States for 12 years. She first started her athletic career as a professional boxer, where she made quite a name for herself. From all indications Miss O’Connor will be the next welter-weight champion, as she is young fast and strong. Coming from Memphis, Tenn., where she is known as the Memphis Wddcat she is quickly putting aside all opposition in her weight class, and if she keeps on as. she is "going she will certainly defeat Miss Allan for the title when they meet again.
