MEDAL MATCH PLAYED. A medal match was played by the Ashburton Golf Club on Saturday and resulted in a tie between four players. The best cards were as follow: —

NORTON FRANCIS CUP. By three strokes the Avondale team defeated Rangiora for the Norton Francis Cup at Shirley links yesteiThe Avondale score was 142, and that of Rangiora 145. Ellesmere were third with 149. The Ashburton team (W. P. Anderson, V. W. Russell, J. W. Keig, and G. d’Auvergne) made 152 (tenth place), Rakaia 153 (13th place), and Methven 158 (19th place). THE COWLISHAW CUP. Twenty-three teams have entered for the Cowlishaw Cup contest, which is to be played on the Shirley links on Wednesday. The Ashburton team comprises Misses J. Lane, I. Millicliamp, A. Madden, and Mrs J. Bathgate.

Heather McCulloch, commenting in the “Sunday Sun” on the visit of the British women golfers, says it has been the greatest thing for women’s golf since the formation of the Ladies’ Golf Union some 30 years ago. “The visitors’ actual game has been vastly superior, and they have taught us a lesson in smiles. Beyond all, they treat golf as a game and not as a business,” she says.

SOUTH ISLAND' LADIES’ TEAM. CHRISTCHURCH, September 22. The following golf team has been selected to represent the South Island against the British women’s touring team at Shirley: —Miss V. Fleming, Miss B. Rutherford, Miss J. Stevenson (Christchurch), Miss J. HorWell (Timaru), and Mrs A. C. McKillup (Christchurch), emergency. The match will be played on Saturday, October 5, with singles in the morning and foursomes in the afternoon.
