ROUND THE GORGES RACE. GROSE AGAIN CHAMPION. CHRISTCHURCH, September 21. Three New Brighton men fought out the finish of the gruelling 100-mile Round the Gorges amateur cycle event, which finished on the Addington trotting course this afternoon. In a thrilling finish W. J. McDowell won by a wheel from R. W. Rondel, with T. W. Dixon a length away third. The winner, handicapped on 35min, finished in shr lmin Msec. Frank Grose, off scratch, came in 10 minutes after the first men to put up fastest time in 4lir 37min 9sec. A. J. Lancaster (Ricearton), also off scratch, secured second fastest time in 4hr 37min lOsec. Grose, New Zealand’s Empire Games representative, put in a brilliant finishing burst to head off a bunch of 13 riders to the tape.

THE SOUTHBRIDGE CLUB. Of a total of 57 entrants, 49 started in a 36-mile cvcling road race held by the South bridge Athletic Club on Saturday afternoon. U.' Milner (Christchurch), from B^mins, finished first in llir 42min 3secs. E. Newell (Templeton), lignins, was second, in llir 46min 24secs. AY. J. Tod (Timvald), 5:! in ins, was sixth, in llir 41min 33socs. R, S. Weir (Christchurch), scratch, made fastest time, lhr 36mins 59sccs.

MURRAY WINS AMATEUR SECTION.

SYDNEY, September 21. The Goulburn to Sydney road races were held to-day. Competitors were assisted by a following wind. In the professional race J. Buckley and H. Veitch both broke Opperman’s

long-standing record in jointly recording fastest time, while C. Wiuterbottom broke his own fastest time record iu the amateur section.

Although she was not participating in the race, Miss Edna Sayers broke her own Goulburn to- Sydney record, her time, 6 hours 11A 'minutes, being 1 hour 29J minutes faster than her previous best. - MELBOURNE, September 22. N. Langley won the “Peninsula Torn'’'’ cycle race of 110 miles by half a wheel from P. Kelly, with J. Butcher a wheel away, third. The handicaps were: Langley 12min, Kelly 25min, Butcher 273 min.
