OBITUARY

MR HERBERT ANDERSON.

The death occurred suddenly at his residence, 50 Grey Street, Ashburton, last evening of Mr Herbert Anderson, a well-known land salesman. Mr Anderson had been slightly indisposed since last Tuesday, and he succumbed to a heart attack. Born at Ashburton 52 ye&rs ago, a son of the late Mr Henry Anderson, one of the pioneer farmers of the Flemington district, Mr Anderson was farming for a time before he took a position in the fir hr of H. A. Lloyd, on West Street, and lie remained with that office for a number of years, when the business was taken over by Messrs Pyne, Gould, Guinness, Ltd., being also stationed for a time at Methven. Eight years ago he took a position as land salesman for Mr W. H. Amos, and had remained in that position since. In his young days, Mr Anderson was a keen member of the volunteer corps in Ashburton, being bugler in the old Ashburton Guards for many years. He possessed a quiet, .unassuming disposition, and he was highly esteemed by all sections of the community. Mr Anderson is survived by Mrs Anderson, one son (Mr C. Anderson, of Christchurch), and one daugnter (Miss T. Anderson, of Ashburton). BRIGADIER MIDDLEMASS. (Per Press Association). INVERCARGILL, September 22. The death occurred suddenly at Nightcaps to-day of Brigadier Middlemass, divisional commander of the Salvation Army for Otago and Southland. Brigadier Middlemass was visiting Nightcaps on duty, and on Saturday had a heart attack. He was GO years of jige, and is survived by his wife and an adult family of lour.

INVERCARGILL, September 21

Word has been received from Stewart Island of the sudden death last night of the Rev. Francis Henry Taylor, aged 54 years. He received a call to the island in February, having previously been in the \Yairarapa. Death was due to heart failure. He is survived by his wife and a son.
