CYCLING.
THE TINWALD CLUB.
30-MILE ROAD RACK. The 30-mile road race to be held tomorrow afternoon under the auspices of the Tinwald Cycling Club promises to be one of the biggest races held in this district for a number of years. The Tinwald Cycling Club has done much to foster cycling in Ashburton and has produced some really first class riders to represent Ashburton: Jack Parsons, Jack Arnst, C. W. Arnst, Gid McKenzie, Tommy McAvoy, Basil le Compte, Harry Cant, George Horton. The scratch division has been strengthened for to-morrow’s race by the inclusion of Jack Crcmiu (Timaru). This young rider is a very fast man and has the makings of a champion. Jack Metcalfe is riding at the top of his form, Glue, stein and Tod are training very solidly for the long distance races find more should be heard of them shortly. G. Metcalfe, T. Poach, J. Newlove on the ljmin mark are experienced riders but will be no match for the scratch division.
Of the 4min men T. Digby is outstanding and is improving in every race. Once he finds a gear to suit him he will be hard to beat. His co-markers S. Ede and Sampson, are young riders. E. W. Hubbard is trying to make a come-back and will be given a welcome.
W. Minogue, J. Parsons and Harry Towers compose the smin markers. Minogue looks a likely winner, J. Par-
sons will represent Ashburton in the big events this year. Jack has not ridden for a number of years but he is a very determined cyclist. 0. Annett and R. Boswell stand out on the 6min mark and should prove very hard to beat. F. Kirdy and G. Johnson are the favourites for this race. Both start on the 7min mark. The 9min men are new riders with Jack Stanton, a promising young wheelman. If this rider would only train seriously he would soon be on the back marks. J. Miller has a strong following of supporters. J. Taylor and J. McGee stand out from among the limit riders. The course is five laps of the Wakanui block, starting at Beach Road. This race is the second of a series to be held by the Club and promises to be very fast. G. Metcalfe (Mid-Canter-bury champion) won the first of the series a fortnight ago, doing the 15 miles in 4‘2min.
