REDUCING A HANDICAP.
LONDON; August 14
The newly-appointed British High Commissioner to Australia, Sir Geoffrey Whiskard, admitted to-day that his private ambition was to reduce his golf handieop. He said it was 16 at present and be hoped, while in Australia, to reduce it to single figures.
“I spent the afternoon trying to polish up my drive, but I am afraid J. did not progress tar,” said Sir Geoffrey. “I am told that the front gate of my Canberra home looks out on the 11 tb or 17th green—l forget which—and I am hoping to put in sour.' usetul work there. “I* am happy in the knowledge that my appointment will enable me to see the cities of which I have only a blurred impression, as I was overwhelmed with correspondence on my previous visit in 1,927.” One of Sir Geoffrey’s hobbies is cabinet-making. He said lie was afraid lie would have to forgo this, as more important things than chisels and screwdrivers were likely to occupy bis hands in Australia.
