DESTROYING NATIVE GRASSES.

Two problems of intimate concern to Australia and New Zealand were dealt with in papers at the sessions of the Imperial Botanical Conference to-day. The conference first considered the trouble due. to overstocking and destroying native grasses which are replaced by weeds. A Members expressed the opinion that the best corrective method was in letting farmers see prepared plots, demonstrating the advantages of stock regulation. The second subject referred to Imphazard denudation of forest lands and serious soil erosion. The conference was unanimous that the evil could be avoided by the preservation of defined swathes of forests instead of indiscriminate felling.
