BOY'S SAD DISCOVERY

FATHER UNCONSCIOUS, MOTHER INJURED. (Per Press Association.) TIMARU, July 30. When a boy, aged 12, returned home during the school luncheon horn today he found his father, William Bell, aged 50, lying unconscious on the scullery floor and the room filled with gas. The police were called and Bell was still unconscious when they arrived. Neighbours found gas escaping from a disconnected, ring, and turned the supply off. Later, the police found Mrs Bell, aged 48 years, lyin" on her bed with her head in a pool of blood. Both were taken to the hospital, by which time Bell ha.a partly recovered, but his wife was m a serious condition. Bell was not well enough to make a statement to-night, and accurate details are lacking.

In ■ connection with the discovery yesterday of William Bell, unconscious through gas fumes, and his wife in another room with her head battered, there is doubt regarding the actual occurrences, but the police are making investigations. So far it is not known how the woman came to be injured. Mrs Bell is still in a precarious condition, but Bell lias recovered, consciousness, and so far lias not thrown any light on the occurrence.
