CONDITIONS COLD AND SHOWERY The weather in Ashburton during the week-end was bitterly cold. Showers of rain fell on Saturday evening, and yesterday a very keen southerly wind kept the temperature low. The sky was mainly overcast, the sun only breaking through occasionally. Conditions to-day, though not pleasant, showed: some improvement. The sun shone in a blue sky with clouds, and the wind from the north-east was not so cold.
Five points of rain were recorded up to 9 o’clock yesterday morning, and a similar rainfall was registered in the 24 hours ended this morning. A frost of 9.28 degrees intensity was experienced yesterday morning, and one of 5.3 degrees this morning. The barometric pressure at 9 a.m. to-day was 29.74 inches, compared with 29.71 inches yesterday! Maximum and minimum temperatures yesterday and last night were 43 degrees and 32 degrees, and those on Saturday 46.3 degrees and 32.9 degrees.
TO-DAY’S FORECAST. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather:— General inference: A depression is moving on to- the Dominion, its centre this morning being cff the west coast of the North Island. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows: —
Moderate but freshening southerly to south-easterly winds, rather cold and becoming cloudy and misty, with rain. Seas rather rough.
