Some pleasing reeitations were also r given by Miss Leah Rutter, Mi’ A. Laurenson, Masters Bryant and Shannon. A committee was appointed to carry the resolutions into effect.

TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO.

(From the “Guardian,” July 29, 1910.)

Snow Thick on Ground.—An Ashburton resident who paid a visit to Mount Somers and Staveley yesterday, states that the snow is still thick upon the ground and frozen hard and that consequently all farming operations are at a standstill.

Profitable Sheep Deal.—A profitable deal in Southland sheep has just been made. A line of 1000 four-tooth ewes was purchased two or three weeks ago by an eastern district resident for 14s each and sold within a week or so after the purchase for an advance of 4s per head on the price given. Poison for Dogs.—Complaint has been made that someone is laying poison for dogs in the Alford Forest Road. Three rather valuable dogs have already been killed, it is reported, by this action, and the matter is a grave offence under the criminal law.
