The appointment of Mr J. H. Carrad, assistant solicitor, to the position of first assistant solicitor in the Public Trust Office has been announced.

Mr N. R. Milsoin, who has been attached to the Ashburton staff of the Bank of Australasia for seven years, will leave on Thursdaj r on transfer to Gore.

Mrs F. W. Seldon (president), Mrs J. Connor and Miss E. Gates will represent the Ashburton branch of the Plunket Society at the biennial provincial conference of the Society in Christchurch to-morrow.

At a, meeting of the Ashburton branch of the New Zealand Education Institute on Saturday members carried in silence a motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Miss A. C. Lloyd, who: was an enthusiastic member of the branch.

During the Ashburton High School Old pupils’ reunion on Saturday evening Mr E. A. Cockroft '(headmaster of the school and president of the association) extended congratulations to Major E. C. D. Withell on the award of the King’s Silver Jubilee Medal. He also congratulated Miss F. Gudsell on having won the New Zealand 100 yards sprint championship, and Miss M. Gudsell on having been selected as a member of the New Zealand hockey team which is at present in Australia.
