WOMEN’S WORLD RECORD

HALF MILE FREE STYLE

MONTREAL, July 21

At the Women’s national swimming championship meeting, Lenore Knight, of Homestead (Pennsylvania) broke the world’s record for the half-mile free style. Her time was 11 minutes 34 seconds, compared with the previous record of Helene Madison of 11 minutesi 414 seconds. Mary Lou Petty (Seattle) also broke the record, to finish second in 11 minutes 39 1-5 seconds.
