WOMAN'S CLAIM.
ALLEGED BREACH OF PROMISE, CASE HEARD IN CHRISTCHURCH. TROUSSEAU ACTUALLY BOUGHT. (Per Press Association). CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. At the Supreme Court to-day Mi Justice Northcroft heard a claim for £SOO general damages and £3O special damages for alleged breach of promise to marry, brought by Elsie Preston a single woman, of Bluff, against Stephen Allen Hagerty, picture theatre manager, of New Brighton. Counsel said that two years ago Miss Preston became acquainted with Hagerty. Later they became engaged. Plaintiff at that time was clerk in a picture show at Bluff, and Hagerty Was working at Winton. Later Hagerty went to New Brighton to manage a picture show there. In September last things actually came to a climax. Though the wedding had actually been fixed for 1934, the wedding invitations had been printed, and plaintiff had purchased her trousseau, at a cost of £4O, Hagerty in August wrote suggesting that the wedding be postponed. Later he asked that the engagement be broken off, saying he would pay for '♦the trousseau. The case is proceeding.
