OFFICE BURGLARY

A SUM OF £ls STOLEN. OIL COMPANY'S PREMISES. ACCESS THROOGH A WINDOWSECOND CASE 'IN THREE WEEKS. A sum of £ls was stolen from the office of the Texas Oil Company (Australasia) Ltd., East Street, last night, by some person or persons who gained entrance by breaking a window, When members of the staff arrived this morning, they found that a from; window had been broken during the night and when the office was entered it was clear that there had been a burglary. The place had been searched, but nothing had been damaged beyond the window and a tin box in which cash was kept. This had been forced open and £ls in money stolen. It is difficult to find a clue as to when the office was broken into, for the premises were closed at '5 o'clock last evening and left unattended until this morning. The yard of the company is surrounded by a high wire-netting-fence with a length or two of barbed wire along the top. Access to the property could not be gained but by scaling this fence, but this would not present any great difficulty. The window which was broken Was about four feet "rom the ground and by breaking a small pane the intruder was able to insert his hand and open the whole window,"" through .which he entered the office. An electric hot water element was also removed. The cashbox did not contain anything but the money stolen. This is the second case of breaking and entering in Ashburton in just over three weeks.
