LAWSON LITTLE. TO AGAIN VISIT ENGLAND. American golfers never conceal their pleasure when they win a British championship, and it is greatly to their credit that they always feel their responsibility to defend it. In fact the player, amateur or professional, who has captured a title, has always returned in the following year to compete again. The one exception was Jesse oweetzer, after he had gained the amateur prize at Muireld, and in his case serious illness compelled his retirement from the game for several years. When Lawson Little seemed the amateur championship at Prestwick a year ago, he declared that he would come back if it was possible, and he is to fulfil his promise. “I have found both the time and the money,” he says, “and I shall be with you again.” Needless to say, he will be given a warm welcome. It is his intention to enter for the open championship at St. Anne’s as well as the amateur event.
But his successes have all been achieved in match play, in which lie is a great fighter, and at home he is not considered anything like as formidable with a card and 1 pencil.
