Work on new fortifications at North Head will begin within a few months, to provide additional protection for Sydney Harbour, and at the entrances to Newcastle and Darwin.

It is understood that nine-inch guns are expected to reach Australia from England before the end of the year. The new fortifications form part of the Federal Government's policy for strengthening the coastal defences, of the Commonwealth.
