EVADING TAXES.
ANDREW MELLON ACCUSED. (United Press Association—Copyright). PITTSBURG, March 7. The Federal Government's suit against Mr Andrew Mellon lor alleged evasion of taxes reached its climax today when counsel for the Government offered to prove that the Union Trust Company which Mr Mellon controlled, was' the "hub" of a giant wheel of tax avoidance." Counsel said that officials of. the company, through various .subsidiaries, made deals to show huge capital losses for the sole purpose of evading taxes and that such transactions "cost the Treasury millions in lost revenues." | Mr Mellon and his legal advisers; were obviously perturbed at this charge and asked for an adjournment to study the legality of the admission , of such evidence. _ .:> j The Court granted an adjournment.
