KINGSFORD-SMITH'S JOURNEY.

AUSTRALIA'S FIRST AIRPORT,

SYDNEY; October 12.

A message from Wyndham states that Sir Charles Kingsford-Smith left at 8.7 a.m. (local time). He expects to reach! Brisbane on Saturday, Sydney on Sunday and Melbourne next Monday. The nervous exhaustion from which he was suffering in the early stages of the.trip has completely disappeared. ■ ; Officials of the Wyndham meat works entertained him last night. In the course of a speech, Sir Charles declared that Wyndham has outstanding claims as the first port, of entry for aeroplanes from overseas, as it is 100 miles closer and has 300 miles less water than the Darwin route. He added that his record was bound-to be broken, by the competitors in the centenary air. race, but he thought that the machine to beat his record would be definitely out of the light 'plane class. The Prime Minister (Mr J. A. Lyons) has received his Majesty's congratulations to convey to Sir Charles. .

LANDED AT CAMOOWEAL. SYDNEY, October 12. Sir Charles Kingsford-Smith landed at Camooweal at 6.15 p.m. instead of at Charleville owing to head winds. He will depart for Brisbane (1400 miles), to-morrow.

ULM'S! RETURN FLIGHT.

'PLANE TO CARRY FIVE PEOPLE

/Received This Day, 2.10 p.m.) LONDON, October 12. Flight-Lieut. C. T. P. Uim will be accompanied on his flight to Australia by Captain.G. U. Allen, Captain P. G Taylor, Messrs J. T. G. G. Taylor and J. 0. N. Edwards, the last mentioned being the .wireless operator. Flight-Lieutenant Ulm flew to England with the intention of crossing the Atlantic Ocean, the United States of America and the Pacific Ocean, back to Australia. An accident in Ireland as he was about to start on the At-, lantio' flight caused delay till weather conditions made the crossing able. The pilot thereupon decided to return to Australia the way he recently flew. He will leave next week.

GREENE ARRIVES AT CAIRO (Received This Day, 12.30~p.m.) ' -CAIRO, October 12. Mr Crawford Greene, M.P., .has arrived here, en route from Britain to Australia, on the first journey undertaken by a privately chartered aeroplane.
