THREE PROMOTERS FINED. OFFENCES IN DUNEDIN. (Per Press Association). DUNEDIN, This Day. As a sequel to a queen carnival in which articles were raffled to , raise funds, four chairmen of various committees . appeared voluntarily in the Police Court to answer charges of having established a lottery! by which prizes were gained by a mode of chance. The magistrate indicated that he had every sympathy with the objects of the campaign to raise funds for relief of distress, but it would be improper for him not to enter a conviction. The three defendants were each fined 20s and costs. A conviction only was entered against the fourth, but on a charge of selling liquor at a dance he was .fined a similar amount. The dance also was promoted to assist the queen's funds.
