ISSUE OF RATIONS.
THE FINAL DISTRIBUTION. 172 FAMILIES ASSISTED TO-DAY. The .final distribution of rations from the depot at the Ashburton Hospital Board's premises was made this morning, when 172 families received parcels of meat, potatoes, onions and, in many cases, rabbits. The issues of large parcels of similar goods has been carried out through the winter, the list of people assisted containing between 170 and 180 names each Saturday. The goods given out were those collected as a result of the drive made at the time the Queen Carnival was held, and the supply has been almost exhausted. The Hospital Board's Relief Committee has decided that in view of the fact that the wood-cutting contracts give-able-bodied men a full allocation of work each month and that general work is becoming increasingly available, there is not the same need for assistance as has been apparent in the winter months. The Committee will decide on Monday to what extent relief will be given to'men who are not able to do hard work, and to those who are incapaciSeveral letters of thanks were handed to officials at tne depot this morning, and extracts from these are as follow: — . ,_ , "I thank you and the Hospital'Board for the rations you have dealt out to me this winter and at other times 1 was well satisfied with them, and they were very much appreciated by my wife and family." . "Thank you for all the help during the winter. It has been a wonderful help to us and will you please give our sincere thanks to each one of the Board members, who have always treated us so well. Neither of us are ones to* ask, and it is nice to receive it without having to ask." "I wish to thank you very much for what you have done for us." "I wish to state how very much appreciated and helpful those things have been all through the wmter.
