STREET APPEAL

EXCELLENT PUBLIC RESPONSE. AMOUNT OF £2Ol COLLECTED. LARGEST SUM FOR EIGHT YEARS The results of the annual appeal of tlie Ash burton Branch of the l-Tunket Society are very satisfactory and. the amount raised is a record, being greater than the collections for about eight years. The public response to the appeal was, as usual, very liberal and as a result the branch will beneht to the extent of £2Ol Os 10d, which, is a considerable increase on the sum collected last year. The amounts collected in the past seven years are as follow: —1926, £179; 1927, almost £200; 1928, £170; 1929, £188; 1932, £lB5 13s lOd. Following are the amounts from the various stalls, with ike corresponding figures for last year added tor . somparison:— 1933. 1932.

The bran tub last year raised £3 Gs lOcl. The total of £32 12s 6d tor flowers this, year is made up of £29 4s "7d for street sales and of £3 7s lid taken at the flower stall. The work stall this year replaced the variety: stall which is usually held and the amount taken by this stall is considered particularly satisfactory. Practically all the articles displayed for sale were made by those in charge, Mesdames W. R. Ryburii, J. B. Nicoll and G. I. Miller and their friends, and considerable work must have been entailed.

Members of the Ashburton Branch were very materially assisted by the various sub-branches throughout the County, cakes and produce being given for sale and country members assisting at several of the stalls. A number of special window displays were made by business houses in Ashburton in connection with the appeal and these attracted a great deal of attention.
