An experiment of vital interest to Australia and New Zealand has begun at the Government Research Laboratoryat Ditton, in packing apples. AJ model hold of a capacity of .. 16,000 cuhic'feet contains 7000 cases of English apples, the conditions being exactly akin to those on the Voyage from Australia. Australian boxes are used because of the absence of bulge, which is thought to he a factor affecting the air distribution. Jflie hold will be kept at an even temperature. The thermometer will automatically register externally the heat generated by the fruit poisoning the air with carbon, dioxide, the effects, including the development of moulds and bacteria. It is hoped that from this experiment the best corrective methods will be discovered. . ■'"""';'
