OBITUARY.
MR WILLIAM BOND. ■*. (Per Press Association). NELSON, This Bay. Mr William Thornton Bond is dead, in his 93rd -"ear. He was a greatly respected resident of Nelson since the 'sixties. Formerly for many years he was one of the proprietors of ''The Nelson Colonist." He was born at Lancaster, England, and when a few weeks old was taken his parents to the West Indies where his father had a sugar plantation. Both his parents died of yellow fever when he was 10 years of age. He returned to Lancaster and was educated at the Lancaster Grammar School. He served his apprenticeship with "The Lancaster Guardian." In 1862 Mr Bond came to New Zealand in the ship Electra, landing at Nelson in the following year. Mr Bond took an active interest in all movements for the betterment ot the people. He was a member of the Foresters' Lodge since 1871. Mr Percy Bond (managing director of ihe Hawera Star"i is a son. The other son was the lateMr J. H. C. Bond for many years Dominion .Superintendent for the New Zealand Shipping Company.
