ACCIDENTS & DEATHS

TWO MEN GORED BY A BULL. ONE TOSSED 12 FEET IN AIR. BOTH ADMITTED TO HOSPITAL. (Per Press Association). BLENHEIM, September 12. Through, being gored by a bull to-day two well-known settlers in the Rai Valley district have been conveyed to Nelson and admitted to hospital, suffering from extensive wounds. The victims are Mr L. Neal and Mr D. Wratt. Mr Neal was attempting to shift a bull from a paddock near his residence, when, the animal attacked him and tossed him 12 feet in the air. His side was badly lacerated, and a wound was inflicted in one leg. Mr Neal managed to get through a fence out of the enraged bull's reach, and received medical assistance from the district nurse, being later taken to Nelson. Some time afterwards, several neighbours, including Mr Wratt, endeavoured to remove the bull from the paddock; but it, charged Mr Wratt, who was armed with a pitchfork. The fdrk handle broke, and Mr Wratt was left defenceless. He received an ugly wound in the chest, and other wounds in his side. He also was taken to hospital. Neither of the men is in a serious condition.

MAN KILLED BY LORRY. TE AWAMUTU, September 12. Injuries which proved fatal were suffered by Mr J. S. Jones, a Jersey breeder of Bell Block, at 3 o'clock this afternoon. He was proceeding to Hamilton with six bulls for the National Breeders' Association sale, in a lorry driven by Mr H. J- Calgher. Five miles north of Te Awamutu the vehicle was drawn to the roadside and stopped, one bull having fallen down. Mr Calgher climber the high sides of the lorry and was engaged in getting the bull on its feet, when the vehicle moved forward. Apparently Mr Jones attempted to enter the driver's cab, but slipped back, the twin wheels passing over the lower portion of his body. The vehicle ran into a clay cutting, Mr Calgher then discovering Mr Jones lying on the roadway. Medical aid was summoned and Mr Jones was removed to Te Awamutu, where he died two hours later.
