UNABLE TO QUIT PLANE
AIRMAN'S AMAZING ESCAPE. SECOND JUMP SUCCESSFUL. (United Press Association — Copyright). LONDON, September 12. The- "Daily Mail" says that the Schneider Trophy pilot, Flight-Lie utenant J. Stanisland. had an amazing escape when a' secret new machine which he was testing became out of control. He jumped with his parachute, but was thrown back into the cockpit by the rush of wind. The machine dived a further 700 feet, when Flight-Lieutenant Stanisland jumped again, successfully. He landed unhurt and the machine pancaked to earth two miles away and was wrecked.
