BOXING.
HAWES BEATS FRANKLIN. (Special to the "Guardian.") GHRISTCHLTRCH, This Day. In one of the fastest professional boxing contests seen in Christchurch for a long period, Percy Hawes, 8.8, of Christchurch, beat Joe Franklin,
8.12, of Hawke's Bay, on points in a 12-round feather-weight bout. Fierce, two-handed punching marked each of the 12 rounds, and although Franklin made a desperate rally in the last two rounds, Hawes was always ahead on points by cleaner punching and a slight advantage in speed.
