KAIAPOI BURGLARY.

CASH, PETROL AND TYRE TAKEN (Special to the “ Guardian.”) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The garage premises of Mr C. B. Higgs, North Road, Kainpai, were broken into early on Sunday morning and about six gallons of petrol and a new motor-cycle tyre were .taken. Loose silver to the amount of about £3 was taken from the till. Entrance was gained by smashing the panel of a door and turning the key. Tiie cover-plate of the lock of a safe was removed and a key was found lying beside it The safe was otherwise undamaged. It is thought that the premises were broken into to obtain a handle for a petrol bowser which stands outside. The padlock of Hie bowser was broken. Constable Conway passed the -premises at 1.15 a.m. on Sunday, when everything was all right, but when proceeding into the city at 9.15 a.m. he discovered the broken door. RICLARTON SHOP RANSACKED. CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. A considerable quantity or tobacco and cigarettes and other goods was stolen during the week-end by thieves wlio broke into the tobacconist’s shop ol .Mr Joseph Coliigan, at the corner ol Maimairi Road and Upper Riecarton. Rond, near the Bush Inn Hotel. Entrance, it is stated, was made through a back window that was forced. The shop was practically stripped of tobacco goods and shaving gear—of a total value of £25 —and 30s in money was also taken. The theft was not discovered until yesterday morning.
