CRICKET.

THE COUNTY COMPETITIONS. The Ashburton County Cricket Association's junior grade competition was concluded on Saturday, when Kia Ora secured a three-point win over Technical, and won the championship. Kia Ora also won the third grade championship, no competition matches being played in this grade on Saturday. Kia Oro, however, played a friendly game with Fairfield, a»d were defeated.. The High School y. Celtic match was not played, by arrangement, while Rakaia defeated Technical by default. . • There were no outstanding batting performances in any of these games, but one or two.good bowling averages were put up in the Kai Ora v. Fairfield match. For Fairfield, P. Willis took three wickets for seven runs, and N. Phelan two for six, while B. Kerr took two for six for Kia Ora. In the friendly game played by relief workers, L. Elvy made 57 (retired) and W. Brady 55 (retired). JUNIOR GRADE. KIA ORA y. TECHNICAL. By gaining a three-point win oyer Technical in the match completed on the Technical ground on Saturday, Kia Ora won the junior grade competition. On the previous Saturday Technical knocked up 96 runs, to which Kia Ora replied with 100 for the loss of six wickets. This innings was completed on Saturday, the final score being 126. Technical's second innings produced 88 runs (S. Roulston 36, A. Argyle 19), and when play ceased for the day Kia Ora had made 64 for the loss of two wickets (C. Stills not out 25, J. Dillon not out 18). Bowling for Kia Ora,. J. Dillon took three wickets for 17 runs, and C. Stills two for 15. For Technical the best bowlers were D. McDougall, who took one wicket for 11 runs, and A. The Kia Ora third-grade team played a friendly match with the Fairfield team at Fairfield, the home team winning by 10 wickets. Kia Ora went to the crease first, and made 55 runs (S. Kerr 15, L. Moore 14). Fairfield replied with 88, the best scorers being F. Rainey 16, N.,Dewart 13, N. Phelan 11, and P. Willis 10. In their second innings, Kia Ora made 78, V, Stills being the only double-figure scorer. Fairfield went in again, and compiled 50 without losing a wicket (P. Willis 27, N. Phelan 18). The first grade crioket championship was won by Cumberland with 72 points, Randwick was second with 63 points and Mosman third with 61. Don Bradman topped the batting list with an average of 170.66 runs. Solomon (Petersham) had an average of 83 and Salmon (Mosman) 60.30. O'Reilly (North Sydney) headed the bowling with an average of 8.38 runs per wicket. Hill (North Sydney) was. next with 10.46. Petersham won • the second grade honours and Randwick the third grade.
