FALSE PACKING.
DEPUTATION TO MINISTER. VIEWPOINT OF PRODUCERS. (Bsr Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A deputation from the Hutt Valley Producers' Association interviewed the Hon. Y>. J. Hawken to-day, requesting that before any stringent regulation to ,cope with the false packing of vegetables Avere introduced, they should be consulted. While quite unsympathetic in regard to false packing the deputation sought to impress on the Minister that there were two sides to the question, and it did not matter if big vegetables were on the top so long as the articles sold was a fair sample. An instance was quoted of lettuce being sold at the market at twopence and retailed at sixpence. Mr Hawlien said that a system of standardisation would have to be taken into consideration He referred to what standardisation had done for ihe export industry in butter, etc., and predicted a similar result in regard to the local marketing of garden produce.
