"SMILE OF TRIUMPH."

PRIMATE LEAVES THE LORDS. (United Press Association—Copyright). LONDON, August 1. The Archbkshop of Canterbury made a dramatic departure from the House of Lords. Speaking, "presumably for the last time here as a representative of those who spend their lives in dealing with the moral and social questions of the homes of England," he appealed to the House to reject a Bill legalising the marriage of a widower with his niece or his aunt by marriage. The Bill was rejected by one vote, and the Archbishop quitted the Chamber, of which he has been a member for 35 years, with a smile of triumph. —Australian PreSs Association, United Service.
