CHURCH RITUAL
THE WAIKATO TROUBLE. PARISHIONERS' RESOLUTIONS. 1 vPer Press Association.) AUCKLAND, April 26. Further evidence of the dissension in the Waikato diocese under the administration of Bishop Chcrrington was ■afforded at a meeting of Hamilton East parishioners. When the formal business of the annual meeting had concluded, Dean Barnett vacated the chair in favour of Mr H. H. Short, and considerable discussion followed regarding the state of affairs at present existing. Mr J. T. Reid moved: "That in view of the decision of the Archbishop and the Church legal advisers with regard to the dismissal of Canon Harvie, and realising the esteem in which Canon Harvie is held, this meeting of churchpeople, expresses its gratification at his reinstatement to office." Mr F. T, Clark referred to the changes in the morning services at the Cathedral. He said he knew that even some of the clergy did not like ritualistic services, but they were in the unhappy position of having %<$ "bend the knee"' to the Bishop. He could not recollect any other diocese where such trouble had' l been experienced. He said it was not a case of what the- congregation detflred, but " what the Bishop said." (Applause.). Mr 'Clark moved the. following motion, which was carried with one dissentient :•—" That this meeting expresses its grief at the state of affairs in the diocese, and trusts that Synod will investigate matters with a_ to remedying tins unrest which is prevalent to-day."
