KLAN METHODS
"HAPJACKINC" VICTIMS. FORCED TO FLOG EACH OTHER. SYSTEM OF ESPIONAGE.. (Received This Day, 9.45 a.m.) NEW YORK, April 11. A message from Pittsburgh states that further light was thrown on the alleged methods of the Ku Klux Klan when witnesses testified that the organisation possessed a secret society whose object was to obtain information regarding all manner of public officials, which might be used to control them if needed. It also trauspired that one member of the Klan obtained admission to the Eucharistic Congress at Chicago by posing as a priest, in order to obtain data for inflammatory anti-Gatholic speeches. E. Lanham testified that he saw Klansmen capture two New York Jewish salesmen at Oklahoma. "They were forced to whip one another," said the witness, "and when they did not apply enough blows on each other with long whips, members of the Klan joined in the floggings. The Klansmen called this ■.' hapjackirig.' "—Australian Press Association.
