BOXING.

LECKIE BEATS GREEN.

NAPIER, March 28

Johnnie Leckie, the New Zealand champion, gained & decision over Teddy Green, the Australian bantam champion, here to-night in a bout scheduled to go 15 rounds, the Australian retiring in the tenth round. At the end of the tenth issue Green intimated to the referee that he did not wish fo continue the fight, his contention being that Leckie was too strong. Green complained of soreness on the front of the head, caused apparently through a collision -vith Leckie's chin about the eighth round, and a medical examination Showed that he was suffering from slight concussion. Had this not occurred he would have continued the fight. The New Zealander early established a lead which Green reduced somewhat in the ninth and tenth rounds, past which he failed to go. As far as it lasted, the fight was an excellent one. Green displayed a splendid* knowledge of ringcraft, and Leckie found that his opponent's skill, speed, and smallness mitigated against direct hitting. Nevertheless he wore his man down and inflicted at times heavy punishment. Green was 81b lighter than Leckie, the latter being 8.11, and this disadvantage, combined witii the Otago man's strength, greater reach, and height, proved too big a hurdle. Taylor, of Auckland, has challenged the winner.
