For the first day of the Autumn Meeting of the Southland Racing Club the weather was dull but fine, and there was a large attendance. The track was holding after recent rains. The totalisator handled £13,741, as against £12,032 for the first day last yearConcluding results: — Steeplechase— 4 Tula 1, 1 Maungamoe 2,2 Scamp 3. All started. Won by four lengths. Time, 6.17. « Southland Cup Handicap—-4 Circulation 1, 1 Overhaul 2, Queen Balboa 3. Won by half a length; one and a half lengths between second and third. Tintoretto was fourth. Time, 2.10. New River Trot —7 Hushabye 1,2 Sunshower 2, 11 Coldstream Guard 3. Won by five lengths; two and a half lengths between second and third. White Sun was fourth. Time, 4.50 1-5. Stewart Island Handicap—2 Latin Quarter 1, 7 Strathnaver 2, 5 Takaka 3. Won by a head; half a length between second and third. Money Mine was fourth. Time, 1.30. Tradesman's Handicap—l Apache 1, 4 Miss Winkie 2,2 Schottische 3. AVon by a neck; four lengths between second and third. Soltoe was fourth. Time. 1.43 1-5.
