LOSSES BY FIRE.

TIMBER MILL DESTROYED. BURNT WITH ITS CONTENTS. 'Per Press Association.; AUCKLAND, This Day. Casey's timber mill at Freeman's Bav, with the machinery, was destroyed'by fire early this morning. An adjacent box factory was not damaged. The .mill was situated, in the vicinity of boat-building yards and petrol stores, but fortunately the wind was blowing in the opposite direction. The insurances on the mill and contents total £3500.

HOUSE DESTROYED AT GLfVE.NAPIEK, This Day. Fire destroyed a six-roomed house at Clive at 1 a.m. to-day. The building was owned by Mr W. J. of Napier, and occupied by Mr W. H. Thurlow. The insurance on the house was For £7OO, and on the furniture £SOO, both in the National Insurance Company. BOWLING PAVILION DAMAGED. AUCKLAND, This Day. The Auckland Bowling Club's pavilion in Grafton Road, the oldest m the Southern Hemisphere, was badly, damaged by fire early this morning. One corner of the building and a large part of the roof were destroyed. There was much damage to furniture, fittings and members' property. Most of the records and trophies were saved. The caretaker's house adjoining was not damaged. The pavilion was not used by members yesterday, and presumably the fire was caused by someone breaking into the building and dropping a lighted match. The pavilion and caretaker's house were insured for £2700, members' property for £ISOO, and the furniture for £l5O, all in the New Zealand Insurance Company. . The o-reens—howling, tennis and croquet—escaped with very little damage.

WHAKATANE SHOP GUTTED. WHAKATANE, This Day. A fire completely gutted Mr D Bergman's jewweller's shop in the btrartci at 2 o'clock on Sunday morning, liie shop forms part of the theatre buildin-, and the theatre itself was saved only through the prompt action of the brigade and the excellent pressure of the borough water supply. The building was owned by Messrs Older and Mac Diarmid. The insurance is not available.
