Senator Walsh said that certain industries were entitled to increased rates. Senator Borah said he favoured increased duties on farm products. Various other Senators indicated the particular industries that should be favoured. It was not considered likely, however, that the present session of Congress will take any action en the tariff: It is announced that the United States exports for tlie first eleven) months in 1927 totalled 445 million dollars, and imports 3852 millions, representing respectively an increase of 124 million dollars, and a decrease of 219 millions over the corresponding period in 1926. Australia and New Zealand together purchased 178,598.000 dollars' worth of goods during the period under review, and sold to the 'United States 50,460,000 dollars' worth.
